(168) Seeds I'm sowing in April, the #SSPC2024 Challenge & Giant Veg
Переглядів 3024 місяці тому
I have finally started planting the tomato seeds. Just a few varieties to keep us all going over the summer. I've sown some cucumbers and brassicas too. Some of the giant veg have been potted on, but will need another re-pot before being planted out. It's a bit late, but I've only just planted up my potato for the #SSPC2024. Can't wait to find out what variety it is at the end of the season. Ho...

I'm trialling #RocketGro and #HeartofEden compost which was kindly sent to me by each company respectively to try. The new strawberry runners were potted up to be planted out in the new raised bed in the fruit cage when ready. The strawberry varieties are Elsanta and Allegro. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy! All the best Nic
(166) Forcing Asparagus and Planting Peas and Carrots for an Early Crop
Переглядів 5845 місяців тому
I'm moving the asparagus into the poly tunnel to encourage an early crop. Keeping to that theme I've sown peas in guttering and carrots in tubs, hopefully for an early harvest. I've used a homemade compost which is a blend of leaf mulch, spent compost and community compost. Plus I had a little surprise on the first day of Spring. Hope you enjoy watching. All the best Nic

Giving a much needed revamp to the fruit cage. The weather made it a bit tricky to film so had to dash out between downpours. I got there in the end. Bonus drone footage of the allotment site and surrounding River Avon flooding. Say hello to my new friend who comes for a daily visit to the plot. She's a beauty and so friendly. Thanks for watching. Sorry I haven't posted any videos for a long while. Life's had it's challenges, but hopefully I will be posting more in 2024. I attended the RHS Malvern Spring Show in May. Переглядів 550Рік тому

I am trying out Super Soil in the long root veg to see if that will spur some super roots for me! It's time to get planting out folks and I've done my first salad crops of the year. Hope you enjoy! Re: Compost - finding 'strange things' in the compost is going to be the new normal. When a manufacturer digs peat out of the ground there are no man made objects in it. I feel for the producers, they need to produce an acceptable product from what is available, and to a greater or lesser extent that is community 'green waste'. What do I think? I think a greater use of leaf litter would help. However my garden is no 'show piece', and I am not a compost expert!!! Looking forward to seeing the results of both the 'test', and the strawberries! Love the journey.

    Wonderful progress! Every garden or plot is 'one job at a time'. My blueberries are a disaster, and our attempt at Rhubarb is laughable. But but but, last year we got sweet tasting grapes from our vine, and in Northern Europe that is remarkable! Our rosemary bush seems willing to grow into a sizeable shrub, so why not? In our green house cucumbers peak really early and not for very long - late June through the first two weeks of July - then finished. However the chillies in our green house seem happy to crop 'whenever' after we buy them as small plants in early May - they even will over winter if given very gentle watering. However your plot is entirely a 'step up', and how wonderful it is!

    • @NicsAllotment
      @NicsAllotment 5 місяців тому

      Sounds like you have a few hit and misses there Gordon. Sometimes it's just about finding the right variety for your plot. I can grow parsnips on mine, but my O/H can't, even if she uses my seeds and prepares and plants at the same time as me, Hopefully you will find varieties that suits. Sounds like you have the chillies sorted though. It takes a while to work it all out. Good luck for the growing season. All the best Nic
